KIA 29 March, 1944 during aerial combat with P-51 escorts at Badersleben. No known grave. Uninjured 3 November, 1943 when his AC was shot down at Brake, and he bailed safely. One known victory, his 1st, a B-17 on 11 November, 1943. His 2nd, a B-17 NE of Hannover on 30 January, 1944. A 3rd, a B-17 (e.V.) in the Hameln area on 10 February, 1944. Bailed successfully 3 November, 1943 after aerial combat with American escort fighters on the Wilhelmshaven raid. Sauer was the long-time wingman for Oberst Oesau.
