Kdr I/JG-400 in September, 1944 and Kdr IV/EJG-2 in November, 1944. His 1st, a Hurricane at Faversham on 26 August, 1940. His 2nd & 3rd, both Spitfires at Themsemündung on 5 September, 1940. His 4th, a Spitfire at Canterbury on 5 October, 1940. His 5th victory, a Spitfire northwest of St. Omer, 5 Feb., 1941. His 38th, a Mosquito 15 km southeast of Den Helder on 9 May, 1943. His 42nd, a B-17 ENE of Bremen on 8 October, 1943. As Kdr I/JG-44 (9/44), he suffered a serious crash in an Me 163 during its development. He was the first Luftwaffe pilot to shoot down a Russian aircraft on the Eastern Front, an I-16, 22 June, 1941, when he was in JG-3. He was flying a Bf 109. He was shot down 14 August, 1941 possibly by the Soviet Ace, Lt. Vasily Demyenok. Known to have flown the Fw 190A-5 in July, 1943. Bowers/Lednicer, 41 victories. Deceased 29 October, 1988 in Munich.
